ZEISS chooses for the Dutch Primaned and PMWeb

The German company, Carl Zeiss AG. (ZEISS), headquartered in Oberkochen, is an internationally leading technology company active in the field of optics and optoelectronics. In the previous financial year, the ZEISS group generated an annual turnover of more than 6.4 billion euros in its four segments: Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Quality & Research, Medical Technology en Consumer Markets (status per 30 September 2019). With more than 31,000 employees, ZEISS operates worldwide in nearly 50 countries with more than 300 managed locations in its real estate portfolio.

The problem

Carl Zeiss was dealing with a fragmented project management landscape, using different tools and systems for their projects and asset management. This led to issues with collaboration, data consistency, and efficiency. They needed an integrated Project Portfolio Management tool to manage their projects and assets effectively.

The goals

The main goal of implementing PMWeb was to enhance the Corporate Real Estate Management process of Carl Zeiss. The company aims to:

  • Create a harmonized brand experience in real estate, with transparency and data management related to needs, efforts, costs, space, and service.
  • Enable faster decision-making based on defined gates within a matrix organization.
  • Optimize the costs and services related to real estate.

The challenges

The implementation of PMWeb involved replacing multiple tools and systems that were previously used. They had to ensure that PMWeb could be integrated with their existing business systems, such as SAP, and that their operational processes could be seamlessly captured in PMWeb workflows and stage gates.

Primaned, PMWeb’s partner in Europe, has been selected as a partner for offering a unique combination; on the one hand in-depth knowledge of Project Controls and on the other hand experience with a comprehensive and flexible solution: PMWeb (Program Management Software Solution). Primaned has been working on the PMWeb implementation of the ZEISS environment since August 2019. This environment went live successfully in January 2020.
